This Henderson Avenue favorite opened fifteen years ago, and though it survived the pandemic, its corporate parent decided to close it for eight weeks in early 2023 for an update that includes a new patio and refreshed menus. Standbys like the beef stroganoff and roasted tomato soup remain, but we were disappointed that our personal fave, the Porch Salad, was not the crunchy chopped salad of old but rather a bowl of dull, dark leaves garnished with bacon, tomato, smoked almonds, and not nearly enough goat cheese. We liked the pink deviled eggs (the color comes from beet juice and vinegar), topped with bacon bits and fried capers, and the Southern cornbread, which had a slightly sweet buttermilk taste and came with a flavorful, not too hot jalapeño butter. The day’s special, a spicy shrimp Alfredo with house-made pappardelle, was our favorite of the entrées. We tried three of four desserts and declared the lemon meringue pie the winner.
