Chef Jason Dady’s restaurant at the San Antonio Museum of Art is as beautiful and gaze-worthy as the exhibits in the galleries. With two dining rooms flanking the kitchen and an open-air dining porch overlooking the river, this is one of the most serene dining rooms in the city—truly a spot for a special dinner or celebration. Fresh pastas are a specialty, as are pizzas and seafood, all with a Tuscan vibe. A salad of white beans, golden beets, and farro will get the mood going. Then opt for one of the family meals or a solo entry like the crispy-skin rainbow trout (declared a winner by our out-of-town guest). Unusual ingredients take center stage with the appetizer of toasted garlic bread and littleneck clams bolstered by nduja sausage and heirloom tomatoes. The pizza bianca sports pancetta, lemon ricotta, and jalapeños. The smoked-gouda radiatore (tight little pasta nubbins that allegedly resemble tiny radiators) was flavorful and too rich to finish—but that’s what take-out boxes are for, right? As for specials, they’ve got them: Sunday night is lasagna night, Tuesday is veal ossobuco, and Thursday is Maine lobster diavolo. Top your meal off with lemon ricotta or a vanilla bean panna cotta. Parking is paid by app in the lot across from the museum, so you might as well see an exhibit or two while you’re there.
