This spacious Uptown Park icon has a modern new look after months of remodeling. Mustard-yellow furnishings pop against graphic black-and-white wall coverings, and the new dining arrangement allows for a view of the sushi chefs at work. The menu has largely stayed the same, with stunning displays of sashimi on ice and myriad Japanese-fusion small plates, such as the popular Kobe cubes topped with poached egg. We found no fault with the usual nigiri and sashimi suspects but would skip the specialty tuna bites (a generous eight pieces): its fried rice cakes topped with spicy tuna, avocado, jalapeños, and shredded scallions didn’t showcase stellar fish. We’re looking forward to the new chef specials on the way.
