Zeke’s Fish & Chips
Celebrating a fiftieth anniversary, this little throwback fried fish shop must be doing something right, cozy and secure in its seventies vibe. Balancing the fish baskets and other hot-from-the-fryer goods are assorted salad options and very cold beer. Order this to go: Icelandic cod bears a homemade batter that’s fried to a pretty golden brown, with mustard-laced tartar sauce on the side. Instead of fries, opt for okra, zucchini spears, or plump mushrooms in a signature cornmeal breading, served piping hot with a dill dipping sauce. Old-school spaghetti with meat sauce remains a big hit, as does the chicken salad, perky with sweet relish and crunchy with pecans; ask for avocado with the salad or get it on toast. Don’t pass up the nutty brownies for a sweet finish. Pro tip: The drive-through is handy, if exceedingly popular. Order there, pull to the side, and a staffer will bring out your meal.
