The playground outside this modern Quonset-style building tells you it’s a family-friendly joint, but make no mistake: the food here appeals to a discriminating adult palate. The creators of Cane Rosso offer exceptional pizza in both round and square versions, bearing thick but expertly baked crusts with crunchy-chewy balance. One of our favorites is the Dope Sopp’, spread with perky tomato sauce, spicy soppressata, and creamy ricotta, with soppressata marmalade as a sweet-hot foil to the meat and cheese. Treasures from the rest of the menu include fried zucchini spears, crusted in coarse bread crumbs mixed with finely shredded pecorino and served with a jalapeño-revved ranch. A fine surprise is the burger, a massive two-fister topped with American and cheddar cheese and horseradish pickles, with the option to add fried mozzarella and that soppressata marmalade (just do it).
