TEXAS Outdoor Musical has been dazzling audiences since 1965 in the majestic Palo Duro Canyon State Park. A talented cast of more than 60 actors, singers, and dancers take us into the past revealing the struggles, strengths, celebrations, and politics of the early settlers, cowboys, and Native Americans. With sophisticated special effects, TEXAS is set against the magnificent walls of the Palo Duro Canyon and is an unforgettable summer experience for the whole family.

This summer brings our new and 8th artistic director of the TEXAS Outdoor Musical, Stephen Crandall. With his vision, we are bringing back songs, scenes, and characters from Mr. Paul Green’s original script to welcome a new and exciting production for the 56th summer season. “TEXAS is a part of my and my wife’s history; we actually met during our first summer with the show,” Crandall says. “It is more so an important part of the Texas Panhandle’s history, and I look forward to contributing toward enhancing that history further.”

The beautiful Pioneer Amphitheater is carved out and nestled into a natural basin in the majestic Palo Duro Canyon, the nation’s second-largest canyon. Our stage comes alive once again this summer for the 56th season of the Official Play of the State of Texas. Experience the TEXAS Outdoor Musical this summer June 2 – August 13, Tuesday through Saturday.

You’ll want to come early and enjoy a delicious chuck wagon dinner served anytime between 5:45 PM and 7:45 PM. The meal includes three types of meat, trimmings, dessert, and your choice of tea, water, or lemonade—and seating surrounded by the beautiful Palo Duro Canyon beneath the blue Texas sky. Visit our gift shop or dance while a live band plays! Sit and enjoy listening to stories told by our very own Quanah Parker (Benny Tahmahkera). Benny is the great-great-grandson of Quanah Parker. At 8:15 PM, the show begins with the rider on the rim waving the Texas flag on top of the canyon wall.

TEXAS has entertained more than 4.5 million audience members, with visitors from all over the world. Want to learn more or get a sneak peek? Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok @texasoutdoormusical for behind-the-scenes content of our directors, dancers, and cast!
