Hear ye! Hear ye! It is time to jog your merry way down to the Texas Renaissance Festival!  The 48th season of the largest Renaissance Festival in the nation returns on October 8, and will continue every Saturday, Sunday, and Thanksgiving Friday through November 27, 2022!

Each year, more than 500,000 patrons step back in time to an era of royalty, fantasy, and excitement! Spanning more than 70 acres of enchantment full of beautiful trees and perfectly manicured gardens, eager guests immerse themselves in a fantasy-like storybook setting comparable to no other.

“When you step foot through the front gates, you are magically transported to the magical village in which we inhabit,” exclaims the King. “Once you come, you’ll never want to leave and are destined to come back every year.”

Once you enter, the King and Queen welcome you to their fair kingdom.  Patrons walk around in amazement for hours and still might not see everything!  There’s something new around every corner, and down every path is a new adventure.

There are more than 400 shoppes scattered throughout the village.  One can find jewelry, handcrafted art, leatherwork, books, renaissance garb, perfumes, oils, and so much more.  Some shoppes also include demonstrations such as brewing, blacksmiths, glass blowing, leather-working, and so much more.  But the food, alas, is what makes the Texas Renaissance Festival so special.  There are so many options from the old world including their legendary, mouth watering Turkey Legs. Grab an ale or stout, or the King’s or Queen’s Mead in the brand new (for 2022) Renmead Meadery. If a guided tour is your pleasure, you can start one at the front gate, or indulge in the infamous Pub Crawl or soon-to-be-infamous Cocktail Tour.

Faire Fact:  The 400 shoppes and restaurants are independently owned.  When patron comes to the festival, they are also supporting a lot of small businesses. Huzzah!

Don’t forget to catch the show on the Festival’s 21 elaborate stages that play host to live performances, including an arena to cheer on frequent jousting competitions. The tunes of endless singers and bands fill the air while performers greet guests and children interact with pirates, fairies, barbarians, and rulers from the royal courts. The entertainment is fun for all!

For nearly two decades, Texas Renaissance Festival transforms each weekend as an exciting new theme is brought to life.  Themes include Oktoberfest, 1001 Dream – Fairies and Fantasy, Pirate Adventures, All Hollows Eve, Heroes and Villains, Barbarian Invasion, Highland Fling, and Celtic Christmas!

The evening performance always ends with a fire-spinning group putting on a brilliantly choreographed display, wielding huge 12-foot spears lit on fire in a magnificent dance of flames. This dazzling event starts in the jousting arena at 7:20 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday during the season and is followed by the nightly Royal Fireworks display.

What’s New in 2022?

Texas Renaissance Festival is excited to welcome all comers in 2022. If it’s your first time, first time in a long time, or you are frequent guest; there is so much to do. Don’t miss our newest upgrades!

For annual attendees and diehard fans, some new highlights of this year’s festival include a wine tasting for the gods called Odin’s Table, doling out five distinct Haak wines.

The Thirsty Pirate will celebrate it’s grand opening this year on opening day, October 8. This is the largest singular expansion of ever to happen at the Festival with a huge two story pirate-themed pub including seating for more than 500, a delectable assortment of meal and snack options, and 64 beer taps! This will be the spot to be this year and also features a giant themed stage with multiple pirate shows running daily.

Renmead is a collaborative project which is the brainchild of some of the top mead experts and makers in the U.S. The Renmead Meadery will open its doors and offer a selection of traditional and exotic hand-crafted meads.  More than 25,000 gallons of honey have been used for this season’s mead batch alone!  Come see what all the buzz is about!

All restaurants have added many new food options! There would be a whole new article to highlight what’s new here on the menu, but there’s so much to choose from. Patrons better come hungry.
