Mark “Gus” McCoy of Austin alt-country stalwarts Micky and the Motorcars passed away in 2012. His unexpected death shook his scene and led to an outpouring of support from the community.

Part of that came in the form of music. Last year, Cody Canada and the Departed (with members of Reckless Kelly) paid tribute to McCoy by recording the ballad “All Nighter,” a mournful tune with a twinge of backroads optimism laced throughout. And today, Canada and the band return with a video for the song.

The video is a simple, honest setup: Inside Floore’s Country Store in Helotes, Texas, Cody Canada and the members of the band sit in some chairs, guitars out, trading verses remembering their friend. It plays out like a country wake that we’re all invited to—the sort of farewell tribute to a life well-lived that anybody should hope to receive.
