The Five Points area in the central part of the city overlooking the glorious Franklin Mountains has become the new hotspot for exciting dining. But if you’re in the mood for something casual, Deserto Pizzeria offers both indoor and outdoor seating (most of the latter quite comfortable) as the backdrop for a lineup of impressive woodfired pizzas. The selections range from Cheese ‘Em Up (mascarpone, mozzarella, and Parmigiano Reggiano) to the Tejas (topped with ten-hour-smoked pulled pork plus a drizzle of barbecue sauce) and the Tipsy Mijou (with a fabulous, handcrafted vodka sauce). Besides the expected list of beer choices (a locally brewed IPA and a Texas lager among them) there are organic wines from Dezilu, a wine boutique based in El Paso and California. For dessert there are more great pizzas, including S’mores.
