Bum Steer: Salon Owner Injects Clients with “Unknown Substance”

Would you let your hair stylist play plastic surgeon on you? Well, some clients at Tyler’s Queen Divas Hair Salon allowed Carmel Foster, the salon’s owner, to allegedly inject an “unknown substance” into their butts and breasts.

“The injection was some sort of substance that supposedly enhanced buttocks and breast size,” KYTX 19’s Michele Reese reported.

Foster was arrested Thursday at a residence in Harrison County and will be charged with practicing medicine without a license, Reese reported. One person was hospitalized after receiving the injections, and the FDA has descended on Tyler to test the substance.

But as horrifying as this news is, it is not entirely unfamiliar: In November, a transgendered woman was arrested in Florida for allegedly injecting patients with Fix-A-Flat. And then there’s the case of Daniel Serrano, a.k.a. Dr. Jiffy Lube, who in 2003 injected Priscilla Presley’s face with low-grade silicon, leaving her with a lumpy appearance. So, if three stories really do make a trend, then America has a burgeoning unlicensed plastic surgeon problem.
