The last 8 boxes from Medina County gave Bonilla whopping 3174-1511 edge in the district’s second-heaviest-voting county, but Rodriguez still coasted to a 6,082-vote victory.

This seat should be a permanent Democratic pickup. Assuming that the Ds can hold the seat in 2008, the seat should be protected from Republican gerrymandering in 2011. Of course, it should have been protected in 2003 too (and was, eventually, by the Supreme Court, but Tom DeLay & Co. weren’t about to let a little thing like the Voting Rights Act stop them.
