Bright with sun-washed floor-to-ceiling windows, pops of turquoise, and diner-style tile, this Houston import to Austin’s Second Street District is perfect for a quick, healthy bite. Order at the counter, then take a seat at an upstairs table, in a cozy mustard-yellow booth, or outside under striped umbrellas. Local foods (Vital Farms eggs, Slow Dough bread, Hi-Fi mushrooms) are indeed major players on the menu, which offers soups, salads, bowls, and fat, messy sandwiches, such as our delicious Gulf Seafood (shrimp and crab on ciabatta, with a Green Goddess dressing) and Avocado BLT on toasted wheat, dripping with ripe tomato, a fried egg, and aioli. We found all kinds of flavors in the side dish of Tuscan kale tossed with toasted pine nuts, Parmesan, sweet golden raisins, red chile flakes, and squeeze of lemon juice. We ordered a chewy peanut butter cookie for the road and loved the sweet, creamy chunks of white chocolate. Note that parking in the next-door AMLI garage (enter on San Antonio) is validated on weekdays before 5.
