Texans have been handed their pride in a doggy bag by a Nebraska woman named Molly “Bottomless Pit” Schuyler. Over the Memorial Day weekend, the professional competitive eater traveled to Amarillo’s Big Texan steakhouse where she took on the Big Texan Steak Challenge. Eaters have to consume the entire meal—shrimp cocktail, a baked potato, a salad, a roll (with butter) and a 72-ounce steak—in less than one hour. Schuyler took it down in a record-setting 4 minutes and 48 seconds. Then the 125-pound mother of four helped herself to seconds, eating the same meal again, in just under ten minutes.
Schuyler shattered well-known competitive eater Joey Chesnut’s previous record of consuming two of the Big Texan’s 72-ounce steaks (that’s nine pounds of meat, for those who haven’t plugged this figure into the conversion calculator yet) in an hour.
[Schuyler] finished her first medium-rare steak in less than 5 minutes to set the record for fastest time to eat the dinner. She rushed to finish the first steak and the sides, including a baked potato, shrimp, a salad and a bread roll, she said.
“The second one, I wasn’t going really for time,” she said. “There was no point. I had to do it in under an hour, so I was fine.”
The Bottomless Pit has been shaming people all over the U.S. Earlier this year, she ate 363 chicken wings in thirty minutes, two pounds of bacon in three-and-a-half minutes, and twelve pounds of pudding in three minutes.
If you’re foolhardy enough to try to take it on yourself, Schuyler has one bit of advice: “Just be careful when you eat steak . . . it’s a very chokeable food.”
