A funky south Austin favorite with blue and lavender accents, Aviary Kitchen has been reinvigorated under new ownership and chefs, offering a refreshing and well-priced culinary experience along with its celebrated and eclectic wine menu, featuring rare finds from around the globe. We started with a selection of oysters paired with an Austrian sparkling wine, followed by fresh whipped ricotta with homemade orange marmalade and brioche toast. A medley of roasted root vegetables came dressed in a tangy miso dressing. A slice of tender roasted pork shoulder had been pan-crisped and served over rich mole, the earthy, savory highlight of the evening. Other recent offerings that tempted us included Wagyu tartare, with n’duja vinaigrette and fried capers, and burrata with sourdough crumble and charred tomato.
