Call it a trend: instead of successful new restaurants in Dallas expanding to the suburbs, now we’re seeing new eateries succeed in the burbs before opening in Big D. Such is the case with Haywire, which opened in Plano and now has a sleek Uptown location on McKinney, just a block from Klyde Warren Park. Ranch-to-table beef and other locally sourced ingredients put a Texas spin on the menu, with touches of updated home cooking. On the menu you’ll find dishes like bite-size Texas shrimp cocktail tostadas; mini tacos filled with a spicy elk picadillo; Texas farm-raised redfish with Gulf lump crab and grilled asparagus; and a citrus-brined, herb-rubbed, slow-cooked half chicken with green-chile grits.
