Diana Fox and Josh Zuniga

While other high school students spend their afternoons running track or singing in the choir, Diana Fox and Josh Zuniga are perfecting their cha-cha and two-step. Actually, the Missouri City duo is doing those other things too, but much of their extracurricular time is spent defending their title as Teen Champions of the United Country Western Dance Council. Josh, who is fifteen, has been dancing since middle school, when his parents encouraged him to take lessons. His instructor, citing a shortage of male partners on the circuit, suggested that he dance competitively, and that’s how he got teamed up with sixteen-year-old Diana, who’d been dancing since she was five. Instantly, the two were a winning pair. “We get along very well, and I think that comes across on the dance floor,” Diana says. This month they hope to win the Texas Classic, which will be held in Houston, and then repeat as champions this December at the world competition in San Antonio. No matter what, this junior Fred and Ginger want to keep on their toes. “We want to be masters,” Josh says. “Yes,” says Diana, “that would be awesome.”
