Amid the tattoo parlors and live-music venues of Deep Ellum, the neon sign in front of this unpretentious eatery is a welcoming beacon. It’s a dive, but the food is authentic and abundant. The cheese nachos could have been our entire meal, the crispy tortillas topped with rich beans and heavy on the cheese; guacamole is freshly made, with a perfect hint of lime. Entrées feature items like char-broiled shrimp covered in a creamy chipotle sauce and tacos al pastor: four miniature corn tortillas loaded with chunks of tender pork (or chicken) in a spicy pineapple-and-cascabel sauce sprinkled with cilantro. Tequila flows exuberantly at the bar.
