Though Jessica Simpson’s newest gig requires her to be a fashion design mentor on NBC’s reality show Fashion Star, she doesn’t seem very interested in clothes on the cover of the April issue of Elle magazine.

Inspired by the pose made famous by Demi Moore on the August 1991 cover of Vanity Fair, and later interpreted by several other celebrities including Cindy Crawford, Mariah Carey, and Britney Spears, a very pregnant Simpson bares (almost) all for Elle, except for a few select body parts strategically covered by her hands.

According to Elle‘s Catherine Straut, the inspiration for the cover was Simpson’s baby bump.

Though mom-to-be Jessica Simpson arrived at Milk Studios in Los Angeles on a crisp January morning looking quite the fashionista in a Roberto Cavalli wrapdress, Lanvin wedges, and an oversize YSL leather bag, it quickly became clear to everyone on set that Simpson’s burgeoning belly should take center stage for the principal shot.

Elle also released a PG version of the cover with Simpson wearing a red dress (pictured above) for more bashful retailers.

In the issue, Simpson reveals she and fiance Eric Johnson will be having a girl. This is the first child for her and Johnson, a former NFL tight end, who also appears in the magazine spread kissing her baby bump. Though Johnson is athletic, Simpson is hoping for a girly girl, telling Elle:

Ah swear, ah will croak if she asks me for a pair of Nikes instead of Christian Louboutins!” she blurts out, her Dallas accent swooping back in this moment of heightened anxiety. “Eric is so athletic. We’re gonna have this ath-a-letic girl and I won’t even be able to take her shopping.

Four days after
Simpson announced she was expecting her first child in October of last year, she famously overshared with her millions of Twitter followers that
the average pregnant woman expels more than two hundred farts a day, landing her on TEXAS MONTHLY’s 2012 Bum Steer Awards.
