From its second-floor perch overlooking the Hill Country, the Westlake location of this Austin favorite offers a cheerful and vibrant dining space. Colorful Mexican blankets, string lights, and cactus plants set the scene for tasty, from-scratch fare. We started with house-made guacamole and fire-roasted salsa with chips and an order of deliciously tart prickly pear margaritas. Griddle quesadillas overflowing with melted cheese and black beans satisfied our craving for comfort, while the lean chimichurri skirt steak seared ruby-red stole the more carnivorous half of our table. For ideal sweet-savory balance, the gulf shrimp glazed in aji amarillo is a must. The Mexican street corn could have used a bit more char, but ultimately pleased with zesty cumin crema and cotija.
