McAllen’s loss is Edinburg’s gain. Well, specifically we are referring to the bustling Trenton Road corridor between Edinburg and McAllen, which is the new home (since August) of this international grocery store and bistro. Intricate lamps illuminate the space but it’s the savory aromas that get our attention when we walk through the door. We could make a meal out of their fresh naan, piled with scratch-made hummus, baba ghanouj, and falafel. If for some reason we’re not in the mood for that delicacy, we will get the shawarma instead, made from with our choice of grilled beef, chicken, or lamb seasoned with their secret spices and tucked into a fresh pita and topped with housemade tahini. Pro tip: Begin your experience with a cup of hot sage tea and finish with pistachio baklava.
