Whether you are vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or just adding an occasional plant-based meal to your line-up, this cheerful cafe on Main near San Antonio College is a sure bet for flavor, calm service, and great coffee. Our recent visit brought imaginative dishes that were both hearty and tasty. Orange “chicken” came crisp-fried with a sprinkle of sesame seeds, while a satisfying sweet-savory sauce lifted a bowlful of broccoli and spinach. An extravagant portion of fried oyster mushrooms stood in for the crustaceans in the usual combo with creamy grits (not spicy here, but homey and hearty). With a kale Caesar (missing the iceberg crunch) to round things out, our lunch was more than generously portioned. We had enough to take home for supper. The adjacent protected patio is pet friendly, too.
