Settle In

The best way to experience Purg is to stay close to the action. By booking your lodging at Purgatory Resort, you’ll be only steps away from the slopes and all of the other activities offered at this mountain paradise.

Whenever you arrive, take some time to rest up and acclimate to the crisp alpine air so you’re ready to make the most of your mountain escape. This is a perfect opportunity to check out our event calendar and see what might be going on during your visit. We like to live it up in the winter and we keep our event calendar full.  There’s sure to be something fun going on.

Day 1: Warming Up

After a comfortable night’s sleep, spend your first day warming up on the slopes. For first timers, or those who need a little refresher, rentals and lessons are available (lessons are best booked at least 72 hours in advance). Also, kids 12 and under always ski and ride for free!

For those looking to head straight out onto the slopes, take Lift 1, the Purgatory Village Express to the top of the frontside and work your way down countless green and blue trails to the base. A few of our favorites include Mercy, Sa’s Psyche, Lower Pandemonium, Limbo, West Fork, and Demon. If you want to explore more challenging terrain by the end of the day, check out black diamond trails such as Catharsis, Pandemonium and Upper Hades.

There is no shame in starting the Aprés early. Enjoy drinks from the Bear Bar, and hang out on the beach. This is a fun and friendly place to soak up some sun and watch the action as skiers and riders make their way down the face of the mountain.

For those who don’t feel like skiing the whole first day,  save a little time to check out the Inferno Mountain Coaster, a fun and thrilling ride perfect for the whole family. (Opens for the season on November 18, 2023, conditions permitting).

While many of our lodging units do have kitchens, you’ll want to reserve a table at Purgy’s for dinner at least one night. With modern American cuisine in a mountain-casual atmosphere, you can enjoy anything from burgers and steak to fish and vegetarian dishes, plus a full service bar. What a perfect way to close out your first day.

Day 2: Go Big

Plan on spending your entire day skiing and exploring the rest of the mountain. Make your way to the backside and check out the terrain on Lifts 3 and 8. You’ll definitely want to make a stop at Dante’s on the backside for a delicious lunch set against a backdrop of our truly incredible views.

If you’re looking to escape the crowds and get into the backcountry, check out Purgatory Snowcat Adventures. They offer backcountry excursions for intermediate and advanced skiers and riders, as well as scenic tours for those who’d rather soak up the views without the adrenaline. Reservations are required at least 48 hours in advance.

After a full day on the slopes, unwind in the outdoor hot tub and heated pool (complete with water slide) at Purgatory Lodge. The stunning views continue as the Needles mountains to the east are bathed in golden alpenglow at sunset.

Day 3: Relax

Your final day of vacation has arrived, so why not spend some time relaxing?
Spend a little time exploring Historic Downtown Durango, then stop by Durango Hot Springs in the afternoon as you head back north. Soak in one of their many pools or fully unwind and indulge in a Swedish, deep tissue or therapeutic stone massages. This is the perfect way to treat those achy muscles after your ski getaway.

Finish up your trip with a walk around the Village Plaza to stock up on souvenirs or gifts for friends and family members.
