With four locations around the city (and one each in Austin and Boerne), Bakery Lorraine has earned fame for its varied selection of delectably flaky croissants and its decadent filled and layered pastries (including macarons), but we are mesmerized by the amazing sandwiches on specialty breads, amply stuffed and served up all toasty and buttery. They’re perfect for lunch or even an early supper (be sure and check the hours because some locations close earlier than others). The humble grilled cheese edition took on aristocratic status thanks to a few rashers of bacon plus Fontina, goat cheese, and Gruyère. Chicken salad arrived on one of those famous croissants. Kettle chips accompany most orders, but you might consider upgrading to frites with aioli, well worth the extra charge. Not in the mood for a classic sandwich? There’s avocado toast, quiche, and a slew of other offerings in a very nice fast-casual setting.
