Cacti, old cars, motorcycles, and Jose Cuervo tequila decorate this sprawling restaurant from chef Nick Badovinus, of Town Hearth and Neighborhood Services fame. High-hung Indian blankets, TV screens galore, framed car photos, and a blaring nineties-rock soundtrack vied for our attention too. The menu matches the decor in its range, from Tex-Mex and Mexican street food to massive burgers (a nod to Badovinus’s Off-Site Kitchen) and queso-covered tater tots. Inspired by the restaurant’s Baja 1000 race theme, we dove into some excellent Baja-style tacos: redfish fried in a light, crispy batter, bursting from a tortilla and topped with avocado crema and slaw studded with pineapple and pico de gallo. A respectable cheese enchilada platter proved the kitchen’s Tex-Mex bona fides. The Banana Hammock, a soft-serve sundae topped with Frosted Flakes, makes a nostalgic (and amusing) finish.
