A decade after opening Mr. Mesero on McKinney Avenue, just below Knox Street, restaurateur Mico Rodriguez has turned that location into his new culinary vision. Doce Mesas (Twelve Tables) has great Mexican classics and knockout cocktails to match. The breezy patio vibe includes a fresh, back-to-the-roots attitude that matches surprises on the menu, like an Asian-inspired salad and homey oven-roasted chicken. Try this: Chico’s Pacifico, a limey serrano-tomato-shrimp ceviche, and the # 4 plate, a classic Mico brisket taco plus a chicken enchilada (served suiza-style on our visit). Pro tip: Pescado al ajillo, delectably flaky Texas redfish, was a catch-of-the-day indulgence, well worth paying $5 more than the cost of a fish-taco plate.
