MasterChef season 3 winner Christine Ha has relocated her downtown Bravery Chef Hall spot to Spring Branch, where she continues to offer flavor-bomb riffs on classic Vietnamese dishes. On the menu, newcomers such as brisket fried rice join old favorites, and the setting’s open spaces, large windows, and generous bar area reflect the casual vibe. We shared a Vietnamese-inflected “quexo” with fried wonton chips, but sadly, the cheese (accented with lemongrass and tamarind) was served at room temperature. The tofu in our spring rolls lacked its advertised crispiness, but a spicy peanut sauce gave everything a nice kick. Highlights included a beef and mango salad, the sweet fruit balanced by savory grilled flank steak, and—the pièce de résistance—a whole roasted turmeric fish with little bundles of vermicelli noodles, fresh herbs, grilled pineapple, and nuoc cham.
