Named for the bright, sumac-accented seasoning, this restaurant is a welcome addition to the international gathering of eateries near the Medical Center. The simple menu is rich in vegetable and grilled meat dishes, all of which make the most of flavor and presentation. Order this to go: the Lebanese-style fried chicken (crisp, fragrant with Middle Eastern spices, and a great traveler) and the Lebanese pizzas; toppings include za’atar and olive oil, akkawi (a mildly salty, mozzarella-like cheese), and spiced ground beef. Most items are family size, like the Big Mezza, a tantalizing array of tabbouleh, fattoush, stuffed grape leaves, and more (we’ve never had hummus that tasted so fresh, so garlicky, so good). Pro tip: There’s a drive-though for ordering and pickup, but we suggest calling before you arrive, so you don’t get stuck behind someone placing a new order at the window.
