The Capitol extension this afternoon is filled with edgy lobbyists packing committee rooms in near panic-mode about getting bills through the committee process. One lobbyist speculated that a bill not passed from committee within the next 10 days should be considered dead. It’s not just talk. The statistics show that as of today (Day 65 of the 140), the Senate has passed 103 bills out of committee, as compared to 135 on Day 65 last session. Last session, 70 bills had passed to engrossment in the Senate, compared to 9 this session. In the House, it’s even slower: This time last session, 253 bills had passed from committee, compared to 56 this session. The House had passed 19 bills by day 65 last session, as compared to this session’s…wait for it….zero.
