One year ago today, Rick Perry’s campaign for president began its very public unraveling as the governor stood in front of a podium during the CNBC debate and grasped around for the name of the third federal agency he would eliminate, in what has come to be considered the most excruciating 53 seconds in presidential debate history.
“I would do away with the Education, the, uh, Commerce, and, let’s see. I can’t. The third one I can’t. Sorry. Oops,” he said.
Perry may yet run for president again: “2016 is multiple lifetimes away,” he said this week, in an apparent effort to reach out to cat owners.
But until then, he’ll always have the memory of “Oops.” And as everyone knows, the traditional gift for a first anniversary is paper. So here are three gifts that we’d like to give you, Governor Perry:
