Our long-time favorite spot for pregame meetups, BdP is nicely situated across from Discovery Green and offers quintessential brasserie fare in a charming space. The welcoming staff and impeccable service also create a perfect setting for date nights, business dinners, and special occasions. We sipped our wine and shared steak tartare—chopped tenderloin mixed with ketchup and tabasco, speckled with capers, topped with a dainty quail egg, all dolloped on crostini—and a lovely salad of cooked (but crisp) asparagus spears, topped with arugula and prosciutto in the lightest sherry vinaigrette. Over the years we’ve enjoyed laudable steak frites, sumptuous coq au vin, and juicy happy hour burgers, but on this very warm evening, we were all about seafood. Classic sole meunière proved a good rendition—one lightly pan-seared filet with lemony brown butter–caper sauce, topped with thinly sliced fingerling potatoes, yellow cauliflower, and snow peas. This night’s special proved special indeed—seared halibut steak atop sautéed spinach and enoki mushrooms, crowned with two plump, grilled shrimp, all dressed in delicate citrusy and savory gastrique sauce.
