From the Omaha-based Blue Sushi family comes a modern presentation of usual suspects in the tony Shops at Clearfork. Though we found few surprising seafood choices, we noted that care and inspiration went into openers such as smoked mussels escabeche: meaty bivalves teased with sherry vinegar, fennel, and green olives took on notes of heat from marinated Calabrian chiles. Shredded smoked salmon and crunchy, cool radish slices with pickled red onion tendrils dressed up avocado toast for a likable shared plate. Though perfectly cooked and beautiful in presentation, the hefty sea scallops kept company with a dull carrot-ginger puree and flavorless squid-ink bucatini. Smaller non-fish options worth a try were sweet corn fritters with jalapeño jam, along with crispy Brussels sprouts and toasted almonds in a miso-chile drizzle. A good selection of East Coast oysters won high marks at our table. The smart interior with stylized nautical detail and supercharged cocktails kept the bar crowd’s revelry level amped up.
