The Bearded Lady

Ordering anything other than the rightfully legendary burgers proves impossible each time we visit this come-as-you-are joint in Fairmount. In addition to the L.U.S.T. burger, laden with poblano chiles, feta, melted Gouda, caramelized onion, and avocado slices, we veered into grilled cheese territory to indulge in the one combining braised pot roast and porter-infused sharp cheddar on buttery, toasty sourdough. Easily as addictive, the sourdough-framed sandwich pairing braised brussels sprouts with thick slices of smoky bacon, along with tomato and herbed Boursin cheese, proved the most original and decadent choice of all. Somehow we managed to find room for the fried leek rings in billowy burnished jackets, best dipped in spicy aioli and washed down with tangy grapefruit-mint hard cider.
