Aqua and coral chairs, banquettes, and counters, with outdoor dining on the boardwalk—the visuals reflect the owners’ intent to mingle and mix the traditional flavors of a Jewish deli with the comfort food vibe of a South Texas diner. “New school diner” indeed. Order this to go: the thick-cut smoked pastrami sandwich with seedy mustard and fresh kraut and anything with salmon. Skip the dense and dry bagel; it was slathered with some really nice lox and cream cheese, but the bread didn’t measure up. Pro tip: There’s plenty of off-street parking under shady oaks, but be prepared to tell a staff member where you are parked. Generally, the meals seemed quite portable and held up on the trip home.
