Fall is the perfect season to visit the Art Museum of South Texas (AMST). The humidity calms down just enough to enjoy a glass of wine from the AMST patio that sits directly on the Corpus Christi Bay. With its unique location by the bay, the Art Museum of South Texas offers stunning views and a diverse range of exhibitions and education programs that are sure to captivate visitors of all ages.

This fall, AMST will host two special exhibitions: “Collector’s Club: Pursuing a Personal Collection” and “AMALGAMATION.” The first comes to the Museum from what began as a conversation among the Museum’s Collector’s Club. The Collector’s Club is a sub-group of active AMST members dedicated to learning more about collecting art, while contributing funds toward the purchase of art for the Art Museum of South Texas. Club members are exclusively invited to join the annual Collector’s Club trip traveling to a different city in the United States each year for a week of unique arts and dining experiences and behind the scenes tours at cultural institutions, galleries, and artist’s studios to learn more about the fine art of collecting. The Collector’s Club is open to existing AMST members.

This fall, the Collector’s Club members have opened their collections by each collector, sharing an example or two for exhibition, so that visitors to AMST can examine what moves them in their collecting practice. In addition, the art museum will exhibit, for the first time, the latest acquisition by the group for the benefit of the permanent collection. “Collector’s Club: Pursuing a Personal Collection” is on view October 27, 2023, through January 7, 2024.

“AMALGAMATION” is the Art + Design Faculty Biennial Exhibition. The 8th biennial exhibition will introduce new work by 14 artists including some new faces. Within the gallery we become a student of how concepts are expressed visually.  It is a bonus to have a title stand-in as a conveyance of an idea, or, in this case, ideas. An amalgamation of thoughts and actions exist on their own, while melding into a unifying whole. The works by these artists are defining thoughts visually, thereby creating art: of their ideas, that asks questions, promotes reflection, and exposes observation as experience. A group exhibition provides multiple points of entry and viewpoints. When we bring a variety of approaches into a single space there is undeniable differences, and by understanding more, while also creating a space for learning, the encounter for the viewer is broadened. On view October 27, 2023, through January 7, 2024.

Aside from the exhibitions, AMST also offers a variety of educational programs, classes, and public events that are perfect for a fall outing. Enjoy free community nights each month such as First Friday and Third Thursday, where visitors to AMST can engage with art and artists in a relaxed and social atmosphere. Fall Family Day will be held Saturday, September 16, from 1 pm – 4 pm. Enjoy live music, entertainment, art activities, games, vendors, prizes, and more, all for free. All ages and interests welcome.

Walking the galleries of AMST is sure to work up an appetite. Visitors are encouraged to treat themselves to an elevated dining experience at Elizabeth’s inside the Art Museum. The picturesque Corpus Christi Bay provides a stunning backdrop as visitors relax and reflect on the art and experiences of their visit. Instantly feel transported to exotic locations with the Mediterranean-inspired menu including fresh baked focaccia and carefully crafted cocktails. Make sure to leave room for dessert, as there is nothing like enjoying a sticky toffee pudding while watching dolphins out in the bay.

Pack a sense of adventure and some walking shoes, and head to Corpus Christi for an unforgettable fall at the Art Museum of South Texas. Immerse yourself in the world of fine art, be inspired by diverse perspectives, and create lasting memories of a fall filled with art, culture, and self-discovery.
