We are wondering why this comfort food restaurant is named the Farmhouse, as it is clearly a barn, a barn with a checkered past at that. Built in the twenties in Jamestown (near Tyler), the building has been home to cows, pigs, chicken, and goats, as well as storage for hay and grains (beef is still available, but it arrives at the table cooked to order). The Farmhouse shines with the requisite chicken-fried steak, pork chops, and burgers, so we were surprised and pleased to find both grilled tuna and mahimahi on the menu, though the sides were more in line with what one would find in Grandma’s kitchen: cottage cheese and fruit, green beans, black-eyed peas, and fried okra.
