Brown County Museum of History

When visiting a town for the first time, why not learn all about its history? The Brown County Museum of History is like a time machine for all things Brownwood with over 150 years of Brownwood history. You will be transported in time to see what life was like as either a Brown County Sheriff or an inmate if you’re feeling rebellious. Be on the lookout for their events to see if they have an afternoon tea event, a pet block party, or are celebrating a holiday.

Pioneer Tap House

Love a wide selection of beer? Pioneer Tap House has 31 taps of Texas beer and local wines, making for the perfect evening to relax and make memories with your travel companions. Along with their extensive drink offerings, they have phenomenal food like pizzas, sandwiches, and sliders. When the Texas weather allows for it, they also have a wonderful outdoor seating area with live music. Plus, it’s right in downtown Brownwood by Intermission Bookshop, so it’s easy to get to. You can’t go wrong going to Pioneer Tap House!

Lake Brownwood State Park

Brownwood is also home to Lake Brownwood State Park, which includes 7,300-surface-acres of water. It’s a wonderful spot if you enjoy water sports like jet skiing, canoeing, or paddle boarding. Many people pack their fishing gear to spend a serene afternoon on a dock. You can even camp or bring your RV if you prefer spending time in the great outdoors. If you end up renting a boat, make sure to head up the lake to Wild Duck Marina to enjoy a meal and a drink on the water!

Martin & Frances Lehnis Railroad Museum

The railroad was an important part of Brownwood’s establishment and growth. At the Lehnis Railroad Museum, you can learn all about how the railroad impacted the Texas Hill Country and why it was so important. There is also a mini train for parents and kids to enjoy for only two dollars per person. The Brownwood, TX visitor center is also located in the museum, so do make sure you stop by!

Wild Duck Bar & Grill

The owners of the Wild Duck Marina, mentioned above, recently opened a second location in downtown Brownwood! The bar and grill location has the same great tasting food — nachos, loaded baked potatoes, pizzas, and burgers. But, they’re right in the heart of Brownwood, down the road from Pioneer Tap House. They also serve cocktails, beers on draft, and seltzers to pair with their yummy food.

Lyric Theatre

It’s not a trip to Brownwood without visiting the hub for local theater – Lyric Theatre! This is the original theater in town, opening over 100 years ago. Today, they still put on plays, musicals, and musical performances each week. When planning your trip to town, check their schedule and get tickets for a performance to remember.

Shaw’s Marketplace

If you love shopping, Shaw’s Marketplace is a must-visit! They have several vendors with wonderful offerings like clothing, home decor, vintage pieces, and even flowers. Shaw’s Backyard, which is their outdoor space, is the perfect location to make memories. Spend some time lounging in one of their chairs under their twinkling lights with an iced coffee from Center Avenue Coffee and play cornhole with your travel buddy.

Urban Roots is Brownwood’s local nursery and gardening store. But, it’s nothing like a regular nursery. Urban Roots is inside a historic Brownwood storefront, resembling a plant boutique more than anything else. The store is decorated with gorgeous foliage that’s for sale, from large house plants to tiny succulents and fun boho decor. It’s unlike any other nursery you have been to, you don’t want to miss it!

If you’re feeling thrifty, be sure to stop by Hey June. Here, you can shop for second-hand items like clothing, jewelry, and even furniture. People love their wonderful deals on high-quality pieces, plus you get to explore all the fun things they’re selling. They are constantly getting new items in, so each visit is sure to be a new adventure.

Duke Street

Looking for an eclectic background for your photos? Look no further than Duke Street. This is an antique store and boutique, selling vintage home decor items, handmade candles, and accessories.
