– The Daily Show filmed in Austin this week. The Monday episode started with an homage to the show Dallas in the intro, and featured Aaron Franklin of Franklin Barbecue among other notable Austinites.

– Later in the show, correspondent Jordan Klepper showed off the barbecue lei that he received form the airport.

– Food TV personality Alton Brown came to Dallas for a live show that used some Pecan Lodge brisket.

– The smoked brisket taco from Valentina’s Tex-Mex BBQ in Austin gets some love from Bon Appetit:

 

– The Austin American Statesman also has some love for those Valentina’s tacos

– The Houston Press lists the Kitchen Sink sandwich from Gatlin’s as one of five giant sandwiches to try in Houston. 

– The Dallas Observer lists their favorite sausages in town, including the hot link at Cattleack BBQ

On tri-tip, and the new names for familiar pork cuts that are coming soon to a grocery store near you.

– The Southern Food and Beverage Museum in New Orleans will have a new barbecue exhibit entitled “Trail of Smoke and Fire” opening on 11/15.

– The whole hog event Dia de Los Puercos is coming to Dallas this Sunday, and this Saturday there’s a BBQ Bus Tour around Dallas as well.

– Thrillist collected a few interesting takes on the pork versus beef debate. Without irony, they posted a photo of beef and pork in the header photo. They were both from an Austin barbecue joint, proving that Texans don’t have to choose:

 

– An event in Charleston, South Carolina will feature smoked brisket and sausage from la Barbecue’s John Lewis. He’s also smoking malt for a Coast Brewing smoked porter that will be served at the event. 

– A Charleston paper quotes Dallas chef Stephan Pyles on the hurdles of serving Texas cuisine outside of Texas, saying it might be harder for John Lewis to succeed in his newly planned barbecue venture in Charleston. 

Smoked brisket cider from Austin Eastciders will be available at Micklethwait Craft Meat’s movie night on Friday. 

– Pecan Lodge in Dallas has a Bordeaux and brisket event planned for tonight.

– The new Black’s BBQ is open in Austin.

– The Fayetteville Observer in Arkansas facetiously suggests banning flights from Texas to other states because of ebola and counts the ban of Texas barbecue as a positive. Those poor souls.
