Next Sunday marks the beginning of the second annual Texas Monthly Barbecue WeekDuring this week-long celebration of our culinary heritage, everyone’s invited to visit the participating joints featured in our 2013 Top 50 BBQ issue who are offering a barbecue special. Fifty-four in total are included this year, and a full list can be found here. A portion of the profits from each Texas Barbecue Week special will go to benefit Foodways Texas, which is “an organization founded by scholars, chefs, journalists, restaurateurs, farmers, ranchers, and other citizens of the state of Texas who have made it their mission to preserve, promote and celebrate the diverse food cultures of Texas.”

All fifty-four specials are a good deal for any barbecue fiend, but a few barbecue joints have created a new menu item just for this coming week:

Del Norte Tacos
Smoked brisket enchiladas with salsa verde

Blue Ox BBQ
The Wilbur pulled pork and sausage sandwich with an apple cider vinegar reduction

Gatlin’s BBQ & Catering
Kitchen Sink sandwich (with brisket, sausage, dirty rice, onions, grilled jalapeños, cheese, and barbecue sauce)

La Barbecue
Roasted Hatch green chile and queso fresco smoked pork sausage

Micklethwait Craft Meats
Smoked beef cheek tacos with cilantro, onion, queso fresco, and salsa verde

Two Bros. BBQ Market
San Antonio
Sloppy Bro sandwich with chopped beef,  two bacon-wrapped jalapeño poppers, mac ‘n cheese, cole slaw and Bros Sweet sauce served with chips and a drink

These alone would make one heck of a road trip. Good luck out there.
