In a world of constant change, we all need a corner to engage in quiet conversation, strengthen friendships, and perhaps indulge in a restorative meal. If you’re lucky, that corner is also home to dishes of a quality you might expect in Mexico City. We’ll start with caldo, please, a deep bowl of velvety, creamy poblano soup dotted with chunks of cheese and crowned with crisp tortilla ribbons. That’s followed by a shared bowl of verdant, chunky guacamole drizzled with the house salsa—and chips, of course. We’ll then move on to the succulent albóndigas de chipotle, mahogany-hued meatball morsels bathed in a chipotle-tomato sauce bracketed with ethereal clouds of perfect white rice. Chipotle takes another star turn in the hearty beef milanesa, a lightly breaded beef cutlet sided by rice (laced with poblano strips) and refried beans. We will close our visit with a slab of the house cheesecake (offered in banana, guayaba, or mango variants), which go equally well with a hot cafecito or something a little stronger—and maybe a little more conversation, eh?
