$1 MILLION to TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY AT CORPUS CHRISTI to endow an engineering professorship that will emphasize industrial safety. While working for American Chrome and Chemicals in 1989, Mr. Benavides fell through a walkway and was killed; his family sued the company for gross negligence and received an undisclosed settlement.

$1 MILLION to BAYLOR UNIVERSITY to create the Howard and Jane Dudgeon Museum Studies Interpretive Classroom and Learning Center and to endow the Jane and Howard Dudgeon Excellence Fund for the Armstrong Browning Library. Mr. Dudgeon, a former mayor of Waco, attended the university, as did Mrs. Dudgeon.

The gift honors the Harts’ family physician of more than 35 years. Mr. Hart is a founder of Electronic Data Systems. Mrs. Hart is the vice chairman and CEO of the Hart Group, an investment company.

$1 MILLION to the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS, in Washington, D.C., to purchase duplicates of volumes from the personal collection of Thomas Jefferson that were destroyed in a fire at the U.S. Capitol in 1851. Mr. Jones owns the Dallas Cowboys.

$1 MILLION to the DALLAS COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT to pay for scholarships. Mr. Mewhinney is a retired partner in the money-management firm Barrow, Hanley, Mewhinney, and Strauss. Mrs. Mewhinney attended two of the district’s colleges.
