Three months after the highly publicized drama involving accusations of theft (which have yet to result in any actual legal proceedings) and broken family ties, cantankerous smoked meat artist John Mueller is back.

As Daniel Vaughn at Full Custom Gospel BBQ reported, John Mueller Meat Co will open on February 20 on East Sixth Street in Austin, behind the bar Kellee’s Place. Mueller previously ran John Mueller BBQ in East Austin from 2001 until 2006, then served at the helm of JMueller BBQ (now La Barbecue) before being ousted by his sister LeAnn Mueller for “mismanaging.”

The Taylor BBQ scion’s comeback to the Central Texas barbecue scene was documented in Texas Monthly‘s Of Meat and Men story last February.

On Tuesday, the Mueller Meat Co.’s new Facebook page offered this memorable status update:

“Eating at John Mueller Meat Co. will be reminiscent of a great cookout at your buddy’s house… I first came to Austin and set up on the East Side. It just made sense to go back,” Mueller said in a press release, which also promises he hasn’t changed:

Though the location and experience is new, meat fans can still expect to encounter Mueller’s trademark crotchety brand of “customer service.”

“I’m not a pit boss. I’m not a pit master,” Mueller also said in the release. “I’m a cook, I cook for a living.”

Expect to find live music, artisan goods, beers, and a butcher shop at John Mueller Meat Co. when it opens. Operating hours will be Tuesday – Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. until the food sells out.
